Airborne viral pathogen, initially developed by the North American Technate during the late First Golden Age. Attacks respiratory function, causing a bluish pallor due to anoxia, hence the name. Particularly effective due to the very long (2-3 month) period during which the victim is contagious but asymptomatic, ability to survive for up to a century outside the human body, and extremely high lethality rate (92% with supportive therapy, 100% without). Blue Death is estimated to have killed approximately 800 million people during the Last War, and continued causing isolated outbreaks during the first centuries of the Second Golden Age, until effective immune-boosting therapies were developed in the 2800's. Blue Death was revived as a bioweapon during the Martian guild-feudalist period, since immune-boosting therapies could no longer be deployed effectively on a large scale.
